Director of Avionics Engineering

What I do at Astrolab

My main job is to create an environment where the Avionics team can do their best work in developing, building, testing, and delivering exceptional electronics for Astrolab's Lunar rovers.  This includes making sure we hire the right people, employ the right processes, execute the right products, and that the team has enough space and resources to do what they need to do.

Why Astrolab

We're at a very special point in human history where we have the opportunity to develop the moon in a really meaningful way and begin a new era in space exploration.  Astrolab is at the tip of the spear in this effort, and we've got a uniquely powerful convergence of a fantastic team with exceptional depth, the right opportunity to lead the charge on lunar surface operations, and the resources to do it.  I'm very lucky to be a part of this and hope that candidates recognize this rare opportunity to join this incredible journey together.

Who am I?

I've worked in the aerospace and defense industry for my entire career going back 15 years.  I've been fortunate to be able to design and deliver electronics for various satellites, fighter jets, helicopters, and now moon rovers.  I'm an aerospace nut and love things that fly (or drive) high and fast!

Advice for prospective candidates

We place a lot of emphasis on technical depth, rigorous execution, and collaboration so we can get designs right as quickly as possible and provide reliable platforms for astronauts and our customers.  Having strong engineering fundamentals is a core expectation, and being open minded about sharing ideas and listening to other ideas so we can solve problems together is a big key to being effective here.
